ONCOLOGY

Departmental Description:

The Oncology Department was established in 2003, with 8 hospital beds.  Today, the department serves 24 hospital beds.  The department is located on the 4^th floor of the surgical building and features equipment to meet the needs of oncology patients.  There are four private rooms and the others are 2-patient rooms.

Activities conducted during hospitalization:

-         Chemotherapy treatment

-         Evaluation of the patient’s general health condition prior to/following treatment

-         Pain management

-         Post chemotherapy treatment:  Fever, neutropenia, anemia

-         Supportive palliative treatment

-         Preparation for/conducting invasive tests such as: colonoscopy, gastroscopy, biopsy, surgical removal, drainage

Department Staff:

The department’s staff is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, psychologist, occupational therapist, speech therapists, physiotherapists and social workers who provide care to the patients - and who speak Hebrew, Russian, and Arabic.

Family members must learn and understand the oncology patient’s rights and accompany the patient during all stages of treatment.

Department personnel must be patient, tolerant, attentive and provide emotional support during the difficult moments experienced by both the patients and their family members.

The department staff views the family as an integral part of the patient.
