In-Vitro Fertalization
THE IN VITRO FERTILIZATION (IVF) UNIT HAS BEGUN OPERATIONS AT THE MEDICAL CENTER
Good news for many couples living in the Galilee and the Krayot: Recently, the IVF Unit began operations, which will spare many people the need to travel long distances to medical centers that are located far from their home. Millions of shekels were invested in the establishment of this unit and it will operate as part of the Women’s Health Division
An In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Unit was opened at the medical center. The unit was built according to the highest standards, including state-of-the-art equipment, which will provide the world’s most advanced technological capabilities necessary for fertility treatments that will be performed at the unit. The unit will provide a solution for the fertility problems of a population of more than 600,000 people. Fertility specialist, Dr. Nathan Levitt will head the unit and it will operate as part of the Women’s Health Division.
Dr. Levitt: “The new unit is equipped to perform a wide variety of fertility treatments for men and women, including micromanipulation, freezing of eggs, fertility preservation, embryo freezing using sophisticated technologies, etc.”
In the near future, a state-of-the-art incubator is scheduled to be purchased that is capable of monitoring the development of the fertilized egg, using a camera, from the moment of fertilization until it becomes an embryo. In this way, the embryos that are developing in the most optimal manner can be selected, which will increase the chances of the pregnancy.
Professor Yaakov Borenstein, director of the Women’s Health Unit and assistant dean of the Galilee Medical Faculty: “After years of efforts made by the medical center’s general director, Dr. Masad Barhum and myself, and with the assistance of the Health Ministry, we have succeeded in establishing and operating an IVF unit that will serve the Galilee. The Women’s Health Unit provides the most advanced services in the field of gynecology, fertility and obstetrics, and currently serves as a tertiary center to which women from Haifa and northern Israel are referred for complex interventions and surgeries.”
Dr. Masud Barhum - General Director of the Medical Center: “The opening of the IVF Unit is one of 10 new departments and units that have recently been opened and will serve not only residents of the Western Galilee but also residents of the Upper Galilee, the Golan Heights and the Krayot. The professional medical staff, along with state-of-the-art technologies is amazing news and we are prepared to provide immediate solutions to the many couples who have approached us in recent months, upon hearing that the IVF unit would be opened. The new unit was opened thanks to the continuous assistance and support of the Health Ministry and all of its division, under the helm of Professor Roni Gamzo, which is constantly working to help develop medicine in the periphery. The construction of the new Women’s Health Unit is currently underway and will cost NIS 190 million, and the IVF Unit will be an integral part of the Women’s Health Unit.
The IVF Unit provides clinical services during all days of the work. To make an appointment to open a file and begin treatment, contact the secretary at: 04-9107500.
