INTERNAL MEDICINE DEPARTMENT A
Internal Medicine Department A was the first internal medicine department opened in the 1960s; and since its inception, it has assumed a leadership role in promoting medicine in the Western Galilee. The department has trained several generations of internists, of which some serve as department directors at the hospital in Nahariya and at other Israeli hospitals.
The department treats patients with a wide variety of illnesses, all of whom are admitted as emergency patients, primarily through the emergency room and some from the various out-patient clinics and institutes.
The department consults on internal medicine problems that arise in patients hospitalized in maternity wards and high risk pregnancy units and in the delivery room.
The department director, Dr. Moshe Shay, is a rheumatology specialist; and consequently, rheumatology consultation is offered to the hospital’s departments and intravenous biological treatments to ambulatory patients in the rheumatology clinic.
The department offers extensive academic activity that includes training of interns, teaching of medical students, clinical meetings and departmental ad hospital-wide lectures, in addition to the training of nursing students from nursing schools.
The department has been recognized for a full internship program in internal medicine diseases for many years.
